Understanding the basic concepts of fractions and decimals is crucial for students in grades 2-5 to comprehend the more challenging learning standards awaiting them in middle and high school.  That is the main goal of the Emmy Award®-winning Math Park: Fractions and Decimals series. The eight-part series begins by focusing on understanding and identifying fractional parts, proper pronunciation of mathematical terms relating to fractions, and the functions of the numerator and denominator.   This leads into in-depth video lessons on comparing fractions, ordering fractions, equivalent/non-equivalent fractions, and adding and subtracting fractions.  The conclusion of the series enlightens students about relating fractions and decimals.  Teaching all of this material can be a daunting task, but Math Park succeeds with its usual entertaining format.

Math Park is highly interactive, constantly giving viewers from ages 7-12 opportunities to “talk back” to the engaging characters about math.  Based on learning standards prescribed by the National Council for the Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the series includes curriculum suitable for students in grades 2-5.  As of 2011, the Math Park series is being utilized by school districts in New York, California, Iowa and Oregon and is also being streamed worldwide on Learn 360.
